Gattinara, Italy 1682

$35.00

Following its destruction by the French in 1526, this city in northern Italy was entirely replanned. It was one of the earliest Renaissance urban designs to incorporate a grid-iron street system, a central square with streets entering the mid-points of its sides, and arcades around the square and along its access streets. The engraved plan-view of this unusual town was published in Joan Blaeu’s “Theatrum Saubaudiae”.
