This birds-eye view was one of over 225 drawn by L.R. Burleigh during his illustrious career. Burleigh shows Potsdam from the west, above the Raquette River, which he filled with logs to highlight to prominence of logging and lumber mills to the local economy. Burleigh owned his own publishing-printing company but Beck and Pauli, a Milwaukee firm, printed this view. From a lithograph in the collection of the Library of Congress.
