Historic Urban Plans

Major Hector Kilbourn planned this Ohio city in 1818. He incorporated pairs of diagonal streets and open spaces to duplicate the Masonic emblem of an open Bible and the mason’s square and compass. These unusual features can be seen in this view of the city from Lake Erie.
