In 1769 and 1770 Claude Joseph Sauthier prepared a series of manuscript surveys of the principal towns in North Carolina. Those of New Bern and Edenton are the two most important. Both are reproduced by permission of the trustees of the British Library where the originals are located.

The museum quality edition of this plan is printed on a heavy paper to highlight its lines and shading.
