Peking (Beijing) 1765

$32.50

The legendary Tartar city of Peking with its royal palace in the center is decoratively depicted in this fine plan drawn by the astronomer and geographer Joseph-Nicolas De l’Isle, with the assistance of astronomer Alexandre Guy Pingre, in 1765. It is one of the first, if not the first, European-drawn plan of the city, and is quite rare. Plans of Chinese cities of this detail and size are unusual.
